While most candidates use anecdotes or dry policy addresses, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee used Hanna-Barbera cartoons as a metaphor to talk about health care during his recent visit to the Upstate.

Huckabee said it was strange that people can access their bank account anywhere in the world via an ATM, but it was practically impossible to transfer medical records from hospital to hospital.

“We have Jetsons technology on ATM, and Flintstones technology on health care,” Huckabee said to a loud round of applause.

This was Huckabee’s first visit in the state since his second-place finish at the Iowa Straw Poll – a victory that he said makes him a leading candidate for the Republican nomination as opposed to a dark horse.

Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) August 22, 2007 — Iowa voters want to vote for Mike Huckabee says the polling analysts at Election2008Polls.com. They arrive at this conclusion because Huckabee’s poll numbers peak after every televised national debate. The poll numbers come down according to the website because “his lower tiered status and aura of ‘can’t win’ precludes them from voting for him even though they may want to”.

Huckabee hoping to build on Iowa surprise

MANCHESTER, N.H. — One weekend after his surprising second-place finish in an Iowa straw vote, Mike Huckabee campaigned in New Hampshire with a clear message.

The former Arkansas governor is determined to prove, especially to the New Hampshire news media, that Iowa was no fluke. “The Earth moved that day,” he said.

And if Earth moved in Iowa, he is trying to cause a political earthquake in New Hampshire.

Within three days after the Iowa vote, his Web site had 3.2 million hits and received 100,000 new e-mails with 1,000 new contributors, he said. “The fervor is bubbling,” he told a crowd Saturday in Kingston, N.H.

The Iowa bounce is apparent in New Hampshire, where voters flocked to his campaign events last week even as they expressed concern that his name still lacked the political punch of a Rudy Giuliani, a Mitt Romney, who defeated him in Iowa, or even a John McCain.

But don’t tell Mr. Huckabee.

FORT MILL — Fresh off what he called a “stunning upset” last week in the Iowa straw poll, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told York County Republicans on Tuesday that he can rescue the GOP next November. In his second visit to Fort Mill in the last four months, Huckabee never once spoke the name of his rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. But his comments left little doubt who he was talking about.

“This country is not so much about gold roots as it is about grassroots,” Huckabee told 60 people at Beef O’Brady’s in Baxter Village. He later added, “Leadership is not about having enough money that you can buy the presidency.”

Former governor Mike Huckabee campaigned Wednesday in Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Huckabee says his second place finish in an Iowa straw poll has helped kickstart fundraising and moved him into the top tier of republican candidates.

Huckabee says he thinks part of his success is because republicans aren’t satisfied with the favorites in the large field of candidates.
